About CBD Oil
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally-occurring constituent of industrial hemp (cannabis Sativa) plants. It is the most abundant non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and is being scientifically investigated for numerous reasons. Most people have heard of a cannabinoid called THC, which is the ingredient in cannabis that gets users high. Unlike THC, CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and does not cause a high.
What is CBD Oil?
CBD oil refers to a sublingual tincture of CBD. CBD oil or a tincture is made by mixing CBD extract from a cannabis plant into a base like a hemp seed oil. The CBD oil can be held under the tongue and absorbed directly into the bloodstream or applied directly to the skin. Sublingual absorption provides a faster effect than absorption via the stomach (i.e. taking a CBD capsule or edible product).
What’s the difference between CBD from hemp and CBD from marijuana?
Both hemp and marijuana are from the same genus and species (Cannabis Sativa). The characteristic of having low THC is the single difference that most rely on to distinguish industrial hemp from marijuana. CBD taken from hemp and marijuana is the same compound.
How do I consume CBD?
The CBD oil we offer has a couple of different applications. You can hold a sublingual dose under the tongue for 30-60 seconds (recommended for fastest absorption), apply the oil topically to your skin (can be applied directly to a problem area or mixed with your favorite moisturizer), or blend the oil in a health-conscious smoothie. We will include further dosing instructions with the product.
Can I give CBD to my pet?
Yes. CBD may treat many of the same conditions in animals as it does in humans. CBD may be used for pets, however, their dosage should be much smaller than yours. We recommend you speak with a veterinarian before giving your pet a CBD product.
Will I get ‘high’ off of CBD?
No. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid so it will not get you high like marijuana (THC) does.
What is CBD used for?
CBD may be useful for some conditions like the FDA approved CBD product Epidiolex®for treating epilepsy in children. Scientists are finding new uses for the rejuvenating effects of CBD every day.
Do you need a prescription for CBD?
No. CBD is not an FDA-approved pharmaceutical or dietary supplement. You are free to purchase CBD for yourself or your pets without seeing a doctor.
Do drug tests screen for CBD?
No. Drug tests screen for THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid found in marijuana, not CBD. CBD hemp oil will contain a small amount of THC, less than 0.3%. This amount of THC, even though extremely tiny, can cause a failure of a drug test when a person is using CBD oil. The higher the dose of CBD oil a person takes the higher the chances of failing a drug test while using CBD oil. You should use caution while taking CBD if you will be taking a drug test shortly.
Does CBD Enter your Bloodstream?
It is important to understand that there are different techniques to absorbing CBD such as applying topically, or ingesting sublingually or swallowing orally. When CBD is absorbed topically it does not enter your bloodstream but rather connects with nearby cannabinoid receptors through your skin pores. If CBD is taken sublingually, under your tongue, for at least 30-60 seconds before swallowing it bypasses digestion and becomes rapidly absorbed directly into your bloodstream. If CBD is taken orally, it enters through your digestive system and into your bloodstream.
Can CBD Be Absorbed Through the Skin?
Yes, CBD can be absorbed by the skin if applied topically. The human skin is a complex organ that has devised numerous strategies, such as physical, chemical, and microbiological barriers, to protect us from external agents. Research suggests that CBD applied topically is potent enough to overcome the resistibility of our immune system. The CBD potency required is typically determined case by case, as well as the body weight of the individual. When CBD is absorbed topically it does not enter the bloodstream but rather connects with nearby cannabinoid receptors through the skin pores.
